Description: Called a grunge band but they are so much more than that. Their first album Facelift was pure hard rock and heavy metal – nothing even close to grunge. However SAP-Jar of flies shows a mellower sound for the band when grunge and alternative were in full force in the early 90s. By 1995 they returned to a more metal sound with a S/T album. Singer Layne Stanley was found dead in his apartment in April 2002, and the band disbanded. Jerry Cantrell continued with his solo band for several years but has recently revived the band with himself singing.
